Crime Or Cover-Up

Over the years, we always find ourselves coming back to ask the big question: What was worse, the crime or the cover-up? From Nixon to Clinton, we know what they did was wrong. How it was handled is what ultimately made the bad situation worse.

The blogsphere went nuts Wednesday over the story of suburban Dallas teen, 13-year-old Melanie Bowers. According to local reports, Melanie brought her assignment (make a protest sign for or against an issue) to her history class, and all hell broke loose. The sign read, "If you love our nation, stop illegal immigration."

While many of us agree with the sentiment expressed, some of her Latino classmates were not impressed. Melanie later described an attack where one of the students jumped on her back and put her in a chokehold.

"I didn't know any of these people. We have brick walls in the middle school and he slammed my face on the bricks."

News of the attack outraged her parents.

"It never should have happened in the first place. The whole assignment was a silly assignment and they should have contacted us immediately after it happened.

“They handled this wrong, you know, they put a child back in danger. It was a very racially motivated crime."

– J.R. Bowers, Melanie's father

Mr. Bowers said his daughter suffered scratch marks along her neck, face, arms, as well as a swollen jaw. His daughter told him as many as 20 students surrounded her in the hallway, and subjected her to verbal insults. Students destroyed her poster. Of Melanie’s bruises, Bowers said, "She was like a zebra on her arm. She believes they were intentionally trying to hurt her."

Three of the Latino students were issued “in-school” suspensions.  The Athens school district was inundated with angry emails about the attack. This incident triggered anger about our nation’s issues with teen crime, illegal immigration, and school security all in one fell swoop.

While trying to get a handle on the seriousness of the crime, the school authorities reviewed surveillance tapes, as the attack was said to have occurred in a “blind spot” not covered by the cameras. But upon further review, the unspeakable became very clear.

Melanie made the whole “attack” story up.  Continued...

ABC News' Shameless Troop Politicization

It’s nothing new that the American news media, complete with starry-eyed ideologues, want to be a part of the possible history a Barack Obama presidency would be. They see it as a national historical vindication, an erasure of racism past, and it would be a damn good story.

Thus, the media has been correctly accused of being in the tank for the Obama campaign, lobbing him softball questions, and overlooking questionable comments made by the candidate, his wife, his acquaintances, and his staff. However, the latest tactic implemented by ABC News is nothing less than shameless, and this with an agenda-driven story offered up by those who have no shame.

ABC News reporterette Martha Raddatz, in her latest column “Surprising Political Endorsements By U.S. Troops”, exploits a traditional practice of the soldier: complaining.

This is not meant as a diss, but anyone who’s served knows that soldiers complain about everything. While on the USS Midway, we complained about the banning of Playboy magazine from the base Exchange, the length of yet another deployment, our battle group admiral, our captain, our department head, and our immediate petty officer supervisors. We complained about the chow, how short our next port visit would be, the at-sea duration between mail calls, our daily chores, another watch, etc.

“Though the military is not supposed to engage in partisan political activity, these soldiers spoke out about their personal endorsements, and their opinions are likely to matter. In 2004, 73 percent of the U.S. military voted for a presidential candidate, and officials believe it may be even higher this time around.”

The difference was, we would never complain and moan publicly, especially to the press. In fact, unless given permission from (and pre-briefed by) the public affairs office, we weren’t allowed to speak to the media.  Continued...

The Good Old Days

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be living in the early 1940's. I understand it was a more simple time. There was no Internet, or 24-hour news cycles. Words took a little more time to get around. But it seemed to be a more honest time; a more respectful time.

America, as you know, was embroiled in a real war with the Germans and the Japenese.  A World War on two fronts against two very determined and ruthless adversaries.  But it also seemed like America was united, from the top down, in those days.

Can you imagine if the then Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn came before our nation (and the world) and declared the "war is unwinnable"? Can any of us imagine what would happen if the then Senate Majority Leader Alben Barkley (D-KY) told the nation (and the world) "the war is lost"? None of us can imagine that because it never would have happened.

In those days, everyone made sacrifices to help the war effort.  The nation was individually invested in seeing to it that the thousands of American and Allied soldiers, who gave their lives to fight communism, and the prospect of its world domination, did not do so in vain.  I can find no reports of anti-war protestors sliming the war effort on our streets, in our schools, and directly to our kids.

But today's America is very different.  Continued...

Condoleezza Rice: Dues Paid In Full

The political world is abuzz with the potential of a John McCain / Condoleezza Rice presidential ticket. Now while I’ve been calling on Dr. Rice to run for president for years, her very presence aside John McCain would do more to destroy the Democrat Party than any super delegate fiasco on the Denver convention floor.

I remind you that I’m not hoping for Condoleezza Rice to join McCain because she’s black. She is definitely qualified, as she’s served a full term as President Bush’s National Security Advisor, and is nearing the end of an entire term as Secretary of State. She was the first black female to serve at both those historically important positions, despite the fact she was hardly celebrated by the very liberals who are patting themselves on the back for tolerating a Barack Obama presidential bid.

I am hoping John McCain offers Dr. Rice the position (and she accepts) precisely because she’s qualified and black.

Let’s not forget, it is progressives who (on a daily basis) instruct us all on the virtues of tolerance and inclusion when it comes to the treatment of minorities and women. We must all watch what we say and how we act when dealing with blacks especially.

There is no better illustration to this than with the eggshells the left are circumnavigating when dealing with Barack Obama. Some say he’s receiving the kid glove treatment because to go to far would invite the accusations of racism. We all know what happens to anyone who crosses that liberal racism line. You can (and will) be ostracized, you can lose your job, you may even face a lawsuit or two, and you may even need round-the-clock security to protect yourself and your family.

But Condoleezza Rice on the presidential ticket would, no doubt, bring out the best in the Democrats. The “best” being our being privy to witnessing just who liberals really are.  Continued...

Just A Girl

It’s been a busy week for the ladies.

The latest pair of Barbie bandits were sent to jail. A third grade girl was reprimanded for standing on her seat at school, prompting a commando-style plot to exact some kind of bloody revenge on the offending teacher. Randi Rhodes displayed more un-ladylike vocabulary, and now supermodel Naomi Campbell had another semi-violent hissy fit resulting in yet another arrest.

We know girls just wanna have fun, but when is enough enough?

It must be nice going through life knowing if you do something bad and get busted, when punishment is being considered, leniency is expected because “She’s just a girl.”

We had that teenaged girl who started a fight with her bus driver. At first, she admitted she had done wrong, but now that she’s the only person in the incident with charges pending; she’s whining that she’s the only one facing the judge. Remember, she started the fight.

Today’s young girls are increasingly violent, show little remorse for their wrongdoing, and seem quite amazed when they face some kind of ramification for their actions. As women strive for greater equality, maybe they should get it.

Personally, I don’t know why young girls upon turning 18 aren’t required to sign up for Selective Service as are the boys. I’ll be willing to bet if you’d ask young teenaged girls why not, the majority of their answers would be “Because we’re girls.” It may be that initial dose of entitlement/special treatment that has given them their license to do whatever they want, good or bad.  Continued...

Pain In The Gas

In the case of the oil companies it’s not clear who should receive more pity. The corporations, or us.

In the case of “Big Oil”, our knowledgeable congressmen issued a very public tongue-lashing to the CEO’s of America’s major oil companies earlier this week. Purely for show, our elected representatives dressed down the leaders of a profitable enterprise, purely because it is profitable.

On April Fool's Day, the biggest joke of all is being played on American families by Big Oil.

– Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass

Granted, it’s kind of hard to sympathize with an industry that earned $123 billion in profit last year. Class envy is the proud domain of the left.

The anger level is rising significantly. Your approval rating is lower than ours, and that means you're down low.

– Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo

Introspection is a trait seldom seen on Capitol Hill, that is, unless one of those politicians is issuing some kind of scripted mea culpa. We are all feeling it at the pump, but these congressmen and senators seldom ask what have they done to contribute to the high prices that amount to higher profits for the oil companies?

And before I get into this, I must ask, would those congressmen feel better if the oil companies were losing money or barely breaking even? Just what would our gas prices look like then?

Food for thought.

Thanks to environmentalists and the politicians that suck up to them, American oil companies haven’t been allowed to build a new oil refinery here for over 30 years, while the demand for gasoline has greatly increased since. Thanks to environmentalists and the politicians that suck up to them, American oil companies haven’t been allowed to drill for new oil reserves domestically, while the demand for gasoline has greatly increased since.  Continued...

Fixing Hillary's Fight

Tuesday, while in Philadelphia, Hillary Clinton made this cute little analogy between herself and movie-icon Rocky Balboa. She made reference to the conclusion of one of the training montages, where Rocky runs up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

I sincerely doubt Hillary actually sat through the testosterone-slug fest, because if she did, she may have chosen another movie. Rocky Balboa loses to Apollo Creed, coincidentally a black man.

But as I listened to her little speech, I heard something curious. You see, I heard Hillary say, “Let me tell you something, when it comes to finishing a fight, Rocky and I have a lot in common. I never quit. I never get up. And neither do the American people.”

Anyone who knows anything about boxing understands that a fighter always wants to “get up” after being knocked down. Hillary clearly said, “I never get up.”

I wanted to use that as my “Quote of the Day”, however when I went online to find the transcript of her comments, something was very wrong. It was obvious I misheard Hillary’s quote. Or did I…?

According to the Associated Press in the Times of London online, Hillary said, "Let me tell you something, when it comes to finishing a fight, Rocky and I have a lot in common. I never quit. I never give up. And neither do the American people.”  Continued...

Why Massachusetts Will NEVER Pass Jessica's Law

During a segment on Monday night’s O’Reilly Factor, one of his producers confronted Massachusetts State Representative Eugene O’Flaherty (D-Chelsea), demanding an answer to why he was blocking passage of Jessica’s Law in the Commonwealth. Massachusetts is one of eight remaining states that have successfully resisted the get-tough measure.

For those of you who don’t know, according to Wikipedia Jessica’s Law was named after Jessica Lunsford, a young Florida girl who was raped and murdered in February 2005 by John Covey, a previously convicted sex offender. Public outrage over this case spurred Florida officials to introduce this legislation. Among the key provisions of the law are a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison and lifetime electronic monitoring of adults convicted of lewd or lascivious acts against a victim less than 12 years old. In Florida, sexual battery or rape of a child less than twelve years old is a capital felony, punishable only by death or life imprisonment with no chance of parole.”

As far as I’m concerned, we should all spare the taxpayers the cost of incarcerating repeat sexual predators and a rather speedy execution is in order. But that’s another story.

O’Reilly never got his answer from the Massachusetts Legislature Judiciary Committee chair. Unless he’s willing to go where some have little guts to go, he won’t get that answer. So, let me give it a shot….  More...

Al Qaeda Democrats

A troubling pattern has yet again emerged.

While we were warned by General David Petraeus that the quelling of violence in Iraq is sensitive at best, the political and military climate there are now a lot better than a year ago this time. With that, the Democrat leadership and presidential candidates continue to operate from a position that all hell is breaking loose every day.

What do they know that we don’t?

Over the last couple of weeks in Iraq, a nationwide curfew has been implemented, there have been attacks on The Green Zone, and bombings within previously pacified areas are on the rise. Some of our brave servicemembers have lost their lives while Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi repeat their mantras that their efforts are an exercise in futility and their lives wasted.

It’s clear that al Qaeda has a horse in this race.

Should John McCain win the presidential election in November, the United States will continue to take the fight to the terrorist insurgency until the fight is done. However, al Qaeda also knows that should either Obama or Clinton win, they will do what the insurgency has failed to do thus far: push the Americans out of the region.

So, if you were al Qaeda, whom would you be rooting for, and what would you do as volunteers for their campaigns? Obviously they can’t donate money, but they can undertake some important grassroots activity.

According to the Associated Press,

BAGHDAD: Rockets or mortars were heard being fired in the direction of the Green Zone in the Iraqi capital. The U.S. military says there are no reports of injuries or significant damage.

“Monday's attacks come a day after a radical Shiite cleric pulled his fighters off the streets after nearly a week of clashes in Baghdad and southern cities.

“The Green Zone houses the U.S. and British embassies and much of the Iraqi government. The area has seen frequent attacks in the last week. At least two Americans working with the U.S. government have been killed.

“The latest attacks come a day after cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his Shiite militiamen to stand down after clashing violently with Iraqi and coalition forces. The fighting came in response to a government crackdown on al-Sadr's Mahdi Army.”

The Green Zone also houses the world’s media.

When violence disturbs their sleep and freedom of movement, that becomes the reported template for the entire nation.   Continued...

Liberals Debunking Indoctrination Charge

While many on the left are super-sensitive when it comes to any inference of voter disenfranchisement or coercion, their thin skins have emerged when it comes to the ongoing charge of liberal indoctrination in academia, demonstrated by the current rise of all things Obamanation.

How else to debunk a conspiracy theory on liberal indoctrination in schools? Try a survey conducted by academics.

According to the Associated Press,

“The research, to be published later this year in the journal PS: Political Science and Politics, analyzes separate surveys on the attitudes of about 6,800 students at 38 universities and how they changed between freshman and senior year. Then it examines whether those results are affected by the political attitudes of the faculty at their particular schools.”

“The short answer is no, according to researchers Gordon Hewitt of Hamilton College (an active Democrat) and Mack Mariani of Xavier University (who has worked for Republicans).”

Of course not. The left would NEVER attempt to take advantage of young people with limited life experience, and whose grades are held over their heads should their coursework not emulate the thinking of their open-minded professors.

Tell that to Jay Bennish, Rachel Corrie, or any of the recent students who’ve become so depressed after hearing years of liberal whining, they go suicidal and/or berserk.

As I wrote before, if 40-plus percent of college students said they were going to vote Republican in November, Henry Waxman would be convening congressional hearings and the Democrats would be seeking some kind of fairness in the classroom legislation. But as young people around the nation are drunk with all things Democrat, the only thing left to do is cover their tracks.

“It's true that schools with more liberal faculty tended to attract more liberal students. But on the question of how students' views evolved, there was little impact, Hewitt said in a telephone interview Thursday.

“About 60 percent of students didn't change their political outlooks much during college. Those that did moved slightly to the left, but the change mirrored that of 18-to-24 year-olds generally. There was no apparent boost from attending a school with a particularly liberal faculty.”

Sorry, but even college students aren’t stupid.  Continued...

The Three Stooges Meet The Butcher

Now, this kind of stinks, don’t it?

According to the Associated Press,

“Saddam Hussein's intelligence agency secretly financed a trip to Iraq for three U.S. lawmakers during the run-up to the U.S.-led invasion, federal prosecutors said Wednesday.

“An indictment unsealed in Detroit accuses Muthanna Al-Hanooti, a member of a Michigan nonprofit group, of arranging for three members of Congress to travel to Iraq in October 2002 at the behest of Saddam's regime. Prosecutors say Iraqi intelligence officials paid for the trip through an intermediary.”

Why is it that Democrats seemingly love to embrace our enemies?

One local version of this story conveniently left out the fact that these are anti-war Democrats we’re talking about. There is this stereotype that liberals are freeloader types. United States congressmen have money, and at any given opportunity, don’t hesitate to give the American people the privilege of footing their bills.

Then again, if they (or we) pay for such a trip, there will be some kind of paper trail. But if someone else pays for it, we may not know about it, that is, until someone gets… indicted.

Why would United States congressmen go on a junket to a country they know we’re about to be in a military conflict with? Did they go to negotiate? Were they going to volunteer to become human shields? They were criticized for going.

“Oklahoma Sen. Don Nickles, the second-ranking Senate Republican at the time, said the Democrats ‘sound somewhat like spokespersons for the Iraqi government.’”

Oh, by the way, the congressmen were Jim McDermott of Washington, David Bonior of Michigan and Mike Thompson of California, and there’s no proof to date that they knew their trip was courtesy of Saddam Hussein. Now this is only me, but if someone were paying for my trip half way around the world, I think I would know who was paying for it. That is, unless getting international trips paid for is so common, no one asks.

To date, nobody knows nothing. It always amazes me how the congressmen and senators declare themselves brilliant enough to impose legislation that sometimes has serious effects on our lives, yet when there is any hint of malfeasance on their part, nobody knows nothing.

That’s not so say this won’t change. We’re only at the infancy of this controversy. Many mainstream media outlets won’t “discover” this story for a couple more days, but there’s smoke here…Continued...

A March Surprise

Upon reaching what many refer to as a “milestone” as the United States military reached the 4,000 combat death number, the anti-war left continues to repeat their mantra that this is a war fought over oil and that al Qaeda had no terror ties to Iraq, thus Iraq had no ties to the 9/11 attacks.

Bush lied, people died.

“The Pentagon just published a report that officially confirms that there was never any link between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda. The report is entitled, ‘Oops, Our Bad.’”

– Conan O’Brien

Now while everyone from activists to late-night comics joke about what’s been called a fatal lapse in our intelligence, initial reports were quite assured that Saddam Hussein had prior knowledge of all that would be September 11. Remember, prior to 9/11 many of those who admonish President Bush for our futile search in Iraq for weapons of mass destruction that “didn’t exist”, were themselves ready to remove Saddam by force prior to the 2000 election.

But many of us still remember the initial news reports from September 12 that asserted the link between Iraq and 9/11.

"We’ve only got scraps of information, not the full picture," admits one intelligence source, "but it was good enough for us to send a warning six weeks ago to our allies that an unprecedented massive terror attack was expected. One of our indications suggested that Imad Mughniyeh met with some of his dormant agents on secret trips to Germany. We believe that the operational brains behind the New-York attack were Mughniyeh and Zawahiri, who were probably financed and got some logistical support from the Iraqi Intelligence Service (SSO)."

Why Hillary "Misspoke" Matters

From Jack Cafferty to even Keith Olbermann, the mainstream media has begrudgingly had to acknowledge that Hillary Clinton’s recent “scripted” recollection of dodging sniper fire in Bosnia was not just a misstatement, but a bold faced lie. A lie told to bolster her image as an experienced, courage-under-fire, presidential candidate ready to become Commander-in-Chief.

The media, as usual, has been slow to jump onboard because they depend on candidates to come on and give interviews. When they think they’re being unduly picked on, they avoid that network. So media outlets are careful to fully check stories before they run them. Those of us online have no such concerns, as I sincerely doubt that any of the presidential candidates will take time out of their busy schedules to be interviewed by anyone on Outside The Wire… yet.

We have both the luxury (and the responsibility) of coming to snap judgments, so we can break stories as they happen. In the case of Hillary’s Bosnia Sniper Jog, we alerted readers to her misstatements as they occurred. The Clinton spin-machine went into action Monday, but there is one way to gauge how damaging this whole Snipergate could truly be.

There is NO mention of this incident on Media Matters.

For those of you who are not familiar with Media Matters, according to Hillary herself at last year’s Daily Kos Convention, it was a website founded in part by her to counter the attacks coming from the “vast, right wing conspiracy.”  Continued...

You Are All So Stupid

At least, it would appear, that’s what many politicians think of us.

I am an opinion columnist. I can just up and write any old thing. However, if I write something that’s factually inaccurate, it literally takes seconds for my email inbox to be bombarded with a uniform correction. With that, you would think politicians would be more careful when just throwing any old thing out there for public consumption.

But alas, they’re not. They are nowhere near careful because they don’t appreciate the fact that the Internet is just one big reference library where we don’t have to know what encyclopedia to look for between 9am and 5pm. All we need do is cut-and-paste a keyword or quote into a search engine, and voila! The “pajama journalists”, as the arrogant mainstream media refers to us as, can poke a gaping hole through any story, and expose any whopper-teller for what it’s worth.

And of all people, one would think Hillary Clinton would know this better than any one. But again, she, like most politicians, figures that she’s so smart and we’re all so stupid.

In her presidential campaign’s stretch run attempt to pound into our heads that she has the “experience” to be Commander in Chief, she told another fib and was caught. If not for a sympathetic, politically allied media, more people would’ve heard about this boldfaced lie. But hey, that’s why many of you come here.

It all started last Monday while giving a speech at George Washington University.  Continued...

The Next Black President Won't Be A Democrat

While drinking my morning coffee, I watched an editorial from the president and general manager of our local ABC affiliate. He seemed to be genuinely hurt by the turn the presidential primaries has taken.

He concluded,

“And the most toxic political ism of all, racism, has sparked a firestorm touching all voters --- black, white, male, female, young and old.

“This week Senator Obama felt he had to address the elephant in the room. Even at the highest levels -- whether it is a prominent minister or a former vice-presidential candidate --when it comes to the issue of race, Americans harbor beliefs and private hurts that erupted in public.

“Let open and constructive debate continue on a festering problem plaguing America -- it's a discussion long overdue.”

– Bill Fine, WCVB

I believe America IS ready for the next female or Black president. However, should that happen, that person will not be a Democrat, as that party has yet to acknowledge it’s racist and sexist past, and we all know what happens to those who don’t learn from the sins of their past.

Think about it.

It’s the liberal theology that deems it necessary to segregate students. Almost every high school and college has a Black Student Union. That thinking has also spawned feminist groups, Latino groups, gay groups, and whatever other “group” that they deem worthy of additional recognition.

It’s liberal thinking that has created a hypersensitive atmosphere in the workplace. It’s progressive thinking that’s dictates that some people need a special advantage to compete with the mainstream. It’s their policies that make it so people have to watch what they say (depending on whom they are talking about) in order not to offend.  Continued...
